RECRUITMENT
Everyone knows the Red Cross, but few people knew that New York had its own operation, the largest in the country, which badly needed local support and local volunteers.
Our campaign featured a New York attitude and an iconic t-shirt. Woody Allen, Chris Botti, Dr. Calvin Butts, Elizabeth Rohm, John McEnroe and Larry King all donated time and talent for the radio effort. Outdoor, TV and radio all featured our theme, "Imagine the world without the Red Cross. Imagine New York without it." Volunteer rolls swelled, as did
New York's awareness of its own Red Cross.
